Britain has Voted to Leave the European Union

Britain has voted to leave the European Union. Here are the results:

- Leave: 17,410,742 votes (51.9%)
- Remain: 16,141,241 votes (48.1%).

Leave won by 1,269,501 votes. London, Scotland and Northern Ireland voted remain, whereas every other region voted leave. No doubt this will encourage calls for a second Scottish independence referendum. Turnout was high at 72.2%.

Yet again the polls were wrong. Polls before polling day showed at one extreme a 2 point lead for leave and at the other a 10 point lead for remain. The actual leave lead was 3.8%.

Full results are on the BBC website.
